For our audio commissions, we’re interested in works that represent creative storytelling in its broadest sense. We want you to push boundaries and to create works that can surprise listeners with their inventiveness and ingenuity. We’re interested in works ranging from the very short – micro-storytelling of one minute to audio pieces of up to 15mins. Works might be:
- Poetry/Spoken Word
- Drama / Horror / Thriller
- Experimental Feature
- Comedy
- Music led
- Creative personal narrative
And can include performance, drama, music and sound design and any or all combinations that convey the idea in the best way. Core characteristics we’ll be looking for in our commissions:
• Relevance: the ideas and themes that really matter to you and your community – however you might define it
• Talkability: shareable content that gets people talking
• Timeliness: things that impact people’s lives here and now
• Originality: Content that innovates
It's worth noting, with the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the media industry has been widely affected. With this in mind, we're particularly interested in content that can be made at home, but as a minimum can be produced within safe social distancing and Covid19 Health and Safety measures.

Ideas can come from many artistic disciplines including (but not limited to); dancers, actors, performers, musicians, writers, film makers, comedians, visual artists, animators, poets, storytellers and games designers. Even if you may not consider yourself an artist, as long as you are passionate about your creative idea and have something to say, we want to hear from you. Each commissioned artist will work directly with a professional production company who will manage the budget (up to £5k for film and £3k for audio) and mentor you throughout the process.
From the serious to the comedic, absurd to the challenging, provocative to the abstract, we’re looking for ideas that push the boundaries on what constitutes art, makes people think and encourages new ways of understanding ourselves and the world around us.
We want to unearth diverse new talent and commission ideas that we may not have seen represented before on screen, on air and online.
New Creatives content has the potential to be selected for an exciting new programming strand: BBC Introducing Arts, which will showcase and introduce new artistic talent from the UK across BBC platforms - BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, BBC television and radio. We’ll look to identify the best platform for each idea.
This is an unprecedented opportunity for creatives to experiment and connect with BBC audiences and beyond.
