Growing up on a sheep farm in North Herefordshire, I developed a deep appreciation for the countryside and those who live and work within it. Seeking to bridge the gap between rural life and media, I pursued a media degree in Huddersfield, securing a year-long placement with Daisybeck Studios where I worked on programmes like The Yorkshire Vet and Springtime on the Farm. My dissertation on the portrayal of rural areas and rural affairs in factual television earned me the Chancellor’s Award for one of the highest grades in my graduating year.
Selected as one of 22 young people to contribute to the BBC’s COP26 coverage, I produced a report investigating pollution in the River Lugg with BBC Midlands Today on my farm. I then moved into current affairs with BBC England, uncovering untold stories and unique perspectives in the Midlands for We Are England, and recently completed a two-year stint on the farming segment of Countryfile. I hope my passion for rural areas will be a useful contribution to the trustee team, though I haven't been in a governance position before, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
